When You Can’t Seem to Help Your Children

As many of you know, my daughter has had food allergies for quite awhile.  We learn’t how to handle that and everything has been good for quite awhile.  Just recently, my daughter got chocked a little on a cupcake.  Ever since then she is refusing to eat anything that she has to chew.  The only things that she will eat are liquid and she was already a very picky eater.   We are doing all that we can to find her new stuff to try and eat plus we are taking her to several different doctors to try and find help.  What can you do when you can’t seem to help your children?

It is so hard to see your child go though something that is so dramatic to them but in our hearts as parents we know that getting chocked and strangled is just a part of life.

Has anyone else had this problem?  If so, what did you do?  What doctors did you go see?

The hardest part of parenting, to me, is watching your child go through something like this and there doesn’t seem to be much that we can do to help.  It’s just not as simple as telling them it’s ok and then it be ok.

What problems have you as parents went through with your children?

  1. My personal advice is to let her handle this with time. You always can try to tempt her with some food. But never give her directly, just put it in front of her, and let the smell do it’s job :)

  2. I agree with the previous comment – let the child conquer its fears alone. I was a picky eater too and had bad feelings about particular foods, because of illnesses, but I overcomed this by myself. Don’t forget that seeing everyone around eating non-liquid food and still be healthy and happy, will work :) Good luck!

  3. I think that a simple method just to help them taste certain foods so they can decide for themselfs if they like it or not. Becuase i was a picky eater as well and i picked by looks and not by taste and it was the biggest mistake i made. I skipped on some amazing meals and i’m happy that now i can eat them. Just give them little bits for tasting and they should choose :)

  4. It’s very hard when your loved once have some problems. Children get over everything much easier than adults. I have a niece and she had also some food problems and we found out the reason is the quality of the food. They started buying only bio food and now she is fine. I hope everything will be ok with your daughter!

  5. My sister born amazing little boy last year. But he is a butterfly kid. This is disease that still don’t have a treatment. She is really upset because in time she should talk with him about his disease. Very complicated because there is no treatment and this kind of disease is really painful and it could be also ugly. So, I will keep reading this blog post! It is very important to me to know how to talk with this little man. Thanks for sharing! And good luck to all of you!

  6. I also think that this is just a phrase. My boy has a rare skin allergie, which is treatable only with pills. At first he rejects to drink the pills, it was like an armageddon, but after several weeks of fighting, he finally start to take the pills on his own.
Be strong Keith, I think that everything will be fine.

  7. I suggest you go and consult a homeopath. If you strictly follow his prescriptions and change your daughter’s diet, you’ll get some good results for sure. Believe me, the power of alternative medicine is great!

  8. Hey Gillian. We ended up taking her to a eating therapist. We took her for several months and I’m happy to say that it seems to be resolved. She is eating great now and gaining weight. Everyone is very proud of her. Thank you for asking.

  9. At first I was oferwhelmed by the fellow feeling, but as I read your last comment I really felt better. Always good news to find out somebody managed to “get through”, since that is never easy.

  10. My niece had the same problem and what my cousin did was very helpful. She started buying organic foods, tried new recipes, stopped using strong chemicals in the house and hired these cleaners, which turned out to use asthma-safe, bio detergents. Now the kid is feeling a lot better, she even gained weight.
