Panasonic AE3000 Projector
Carada screen
Samsung UN55B 8500 LED LCD (55")
X-Box 360 Elite
PS 3
Toshiba HD A-35 DVD/HD -DVD player
Denon 3808C Reciever
Emotiva XPA-5 Amp
Monster HTS 5100 SS
Monster HTPS 7000 SS
Monster AVS 2000 SS
Rocket Speakers 7.1 Surround Sound
JL Audio Fathom-113 Sub-woofers
Lutron lighting - can be dimmed via my remote.
4 leather home theater zero depth reclining seats with cup holders and the works.
3 Buttkickers under the Home Theater seats

This was my first home theater attempt. We bought this house so I had to work within the confines of the room that was already completed. I did everything except running 2 of the surround wires. We are going to build in the next 5 years so this was preparation for doing one from the ground up. When I had my first projector I played a lot of COD4 on it with the Daddyplace guy's. It was hard on the bulbs which are $300-$400 a piece. When I bought me new projector last year I also bought a 40" inch Samsung LCD to game on. This was too small so I moved it upstairs and I replaced it with the 55'' Samsung which is perfect. In the picture below you can see the Samsung is mounted so it swings out when I play games. The 40" Samsung is on the floor ready to be moved upstairs. It will then go back to almost flat against the wall for movies on the big screen. I love it. Needless to say my wife is a saint.

Sorry about the flash glare.

Damn Rich & Clay!

Some exotic gear there with the Emotiva and Axioms. And I'm sure that Epson 8500 puts out a stunning image.  :drool2:

I love it.. it's nice and bright so I can game and watch sports even with the lights on.

I got lucky when I bought this house. The guy I bought it from is the music director for EA games and had allot of the Audio set ups already in place and rear speaker wires already run. He left the Sony surround systems which aren't the greatest anyway and he also left the projector which was a big plus. But he had cheap Polk and sony speakers in the room. I had to get rid of them ASAP. He was shooting the projector on the wall. It was terrible.

Damn Rich & Clay!

Some exotic gear there with the Emotiva and Axioms...  :drool2:

I guess I will take this as a compliment....so, Thanks Bob.   I guess I don't see Emotiva as too "exotic" (ie. Rotel, Adcom, Classe, etc.), but they are internet direct so I guess they are not overly common.  (check out the "home theater pictures" thread, Outlikealight also has Emotiva products, and a very impressive home theater)

But, this does kind of get back to the OP's question of "why" certain components, or brands.
Personally, I really feel like there is some added value for an internet direct brand...as well as added customer service.  I feel like they can offer a better product for a comparable (if not lower) price than some of the big names, because they don't have the expense of advertising, and "middle-men" (ie. big box store).

My pre/pro and Amp (Emotiva), speakers (Ascend Acoustics), and sub (SVS) are all from internet direct companies.  I won't go into specific stories right now, but I have had nothing but positive experiences with all 3 companie and am a member of the forums of all 3.  If you, or anyone, want more information on any of the 3, I'd be happy to provide some specifics about my experiences (customer service), as well as any info I used to make my purchase decisions.

Ok as far as the furniture and shit my wife does all that, so its nothing special.

But as far as the specs on my crap...

Sony 7.1 reciever at 700watts (100 watts per channel)  about 300$
Infinity Entra series matched speakers
 - two towers in the front, center, 2 bookshelf speakers in the back ( i dont use 7.1, i just do 5.1)    Probably all together like 700$
Infinity sub - like 200$
Sony DVD/VCRcombo
Sony Trinitron Wega TV

Obviously my TV needs upgraded to HD but I'm saving up for that.

All my crap I got from Crutchfield.com  Its a store out of Charlottesville VA, and I love it.  Quality stuff for not too bad a price.  I got the lower end stuff, they have real high end components like "Denon" and Polk audio.

Well, I also don't consider it a "true" home theater (due to no projector)...but, here's my component list...

  Amp = Emotiva XPA-5
  Pre/Pro = Emotiva UMC-1
  Center Speaker = Ascend Acoustics
   CMT-340
   L/R Main speakers = Ascend Acoustics
CBM-170
   Surrounds = Ascend Acoustics
HTM-200
    Sub = SVS
PB10-ISD
    Display = Sony
LN52A650
    DVD/SACD player = Sony
NC-875
    HD-DVD player  =
Toshiba HD-A3
    PS3 for Blu-Ray and gaming
    Dish Network HD/DVR

I finished building ours last year, but I think I'm going to upgrade again later this year.

52" Sharp LCD 1080p
Onkyo 607
Klipsch Quintent III 5.1
Yamaha YST-SW315 10" sub
Playstation 3 for Blu-ray
Xbox 360 for Netflix

Planning on upgrading to:

102" screen
3D enabled HD projector (I'm not a fan of 3D, but it would be nice to have it anyway)
A second sub
PS3 Slim (it encodes TrueHD audio whereas the older PS3 models don't)

42" Panasonic Plasma, Onkyo receiver and speaker package (HTIB, real basic but it works, never get to play any games on it though which is why I really wanted it), LG blu-ray player.  Pretty simple but we live in a tiny condo, so it whats best for now.

I've been planning to close in my patio and turn it into a HT. I plan on a projector, 102" screen, denon audio and klipsch speakers. It will be more of a game room/bar/HT. But when I want to hide that'll be where I'm at.

I'll be researching this later on, but right now, I was just curious who built their home theater, and what components you're all using?  Does anyone have any experience with an infinite baffle speaker design?  I know I have to consider what furnishings are in the room, where everyone will be sitting, and the room design, but I'd like to see what everyone else is running for their own system, and why
