Didn't mean he made $300k on SSI. I know that is not possible. But I beleive it's possible to make $300k as a shrimper. Aftr this guy only shrimps. Maybe the $300k was the "shrimp income" and the wife's income. But still, a "total household income" of $300 and he still gets SSI? :gaah:

I think your friend is blowing some numbers out of the water.  Ppl make jack crap on SSI.  You're lucky if you get 18K for the year.  300K.  No way.  And a shrimper to make 300K?  That's unheard of.  Only construction crews who build the boats, the general contractor, stand to make that much.  85K for Katrina and 45K for Gustav.  He'd be lucky to get half that.  I have no doubt he is playing the system like so, so many ppl do and I agree how others need it and can't get it.  But don't let it get you too down.  Those are waaay inflated numbers and their are thousands more just like him playing the system as well.  There's a way to create new jobs.  Take some of that money and have quality insurance ppl who go to the homes of ppl getting welfare and SSI.  If somethings suspicious, they follow them for a week.  Or just b/c they played the system and got welfare, are they above the system and suspicion?

Just a Rant!

I was across in my boss' office yesterday afternoon and the Superintendant came in fuss'n and cuss'n.

He said
Quote
"I work hard all my life, you work hard all you life, pay taxes and try to get ahead and get nowhere. My brother is a shrimper and he just collected $85k from the gov't for Katrina and fixing to get $45k for Gustav. Not to mention he made $300k last year while on Social Security."

I asked how did he do that?

His boat is under his wife's name and he basically gets paid cash from working the boat so he still could get SSI.

Why is he getting all that money from the gov't? I asked.

Cause they are subsidizing the shrimpers for the lost revenue from the hurricanes.
End of conversation

I liked to blow my top? People like this that cicumvent the system are pathetic. It is what's making it harder for me and many others to stand behind all that has gone on with the Gov't now and in the past. Do they even investigate these people before dolling out money?

OK the subsidized money isn't as bad as the SSI scheme that this fool is running. This is why we are in so much debt. People like this getting money and don't deserve it. Maybe a little but seeing that he is cheating the SSI system just makes me sick and so pissed. There are people that need SSI and can't get it because of a-holes like this.

And remember this is only 1 guy doing this and getting all this money. I wonder how many more there are that is actually getting all this subsidized money.

BTW, all that money he is getting is, you are gonna love this, TAX FREE. WTF

Sorry, just had to b@tch about this.
