Point well taken Joey.  I was actually referring to the rumors that he is Muslim.  I know that radical Muslims are a big problem in the world but I'd like to think that as a nation because someone is Muslim or Jewish or Catholic or Baptist it really shouldn't matter anymore as long as they are an honorable good person.  but maybe that's a whole nother discussion.

It's like those billboards that say "It doesn't matter what church you go to, just go." Some say it, others believe it. Personally, I don't care what religion a person belongs to or if they belong to one at all, it's their actions that I'm interested in - there's plenty of folks who think they can do whatever they want as long as they go to church on Sunday, that it's all justified.

to be honest, I'm more concerned/interested in Palin's husband 7 year stint as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, which has been advocating Alaskan secession since the '70s, than her daughter's pregnancy. Stupid decisions by underage children shouldn't be part of the political debate, IMO, though I can see how some would view it as a negative reflection upon the parents, but I think it could have been a decent sitcom pitch "She's the governor of Alaska, He thinks it should be an independent nation...hijinks abound!"

Yes I agree with you both Chris and Bill.  practice what you preach.  And like I said kudos to Obama for saying family is off limits.  Politics in the US seems to have gotten completely away from the candidates views to how much crap can we dig up on them and their families.  Personally I couldn't care less that the VP candidates kid is pregnant.  So what?  I couldn't care less what church Obama goes to.  As long as he works towards making this country better I don't care if he is an atheist.  What does it matter as long as he's not evil.  As far as I can see he's not evil but a good talker.  I'm still wondering what "change" is in his mind.  How refreshing would it be, just for once to actually hear a candidate speak his mind instead of pre-written responses to questions they think will come up or what you think people want to hear so you get elected.
What it comes down to is who do I believe more?  And who will let me keep the most of my money.

I have to disagree with you on that point Randy, if the guys "spiritual advisor" preaches nothing but "Dam America" and racial hate I want to know about that.

Does anyone really care that Palins daughter is pregnant? Why is that even news?

I think that it just represents how hypocritical she can be (or for that matter any political candidate), in that she wants to teach abstinence in school as a means of preventing teen pregnancy, and yet she cannot teach her own teenage daughter to abstain. I agree that families should be 'off-limits', but practice what you preach gives you more credibility.

Valid point. Personally I liked Obama`s reaction to it all.  `That`s family, it should be off-limits.`  Nothing like getting your muck rakers to find it and then make yourself look better by denouncing what they did.

I'm not going to take side's here cuss even i don't know who i will be voting for yet but to answer the question about palins daughter:

it has everything to do with "the republican party" and there whole family values spiel. having a 17 yo pregnant unmarried daughter in her house makes her look bad due to her stances and the things she has said in the past about this very issue. it basically tells me that her stance on abstinence only education for kids doesn't work if she cant even convince her own daughter that it's the right way.

personally i also don't see it as a big deal but you gotta think that this is just one of the things she stands for that she cant enforce, family values is another big one for me. going back to work after 3 or 4 days after your premature, down syndrome child is born is not family values, in fact it's down right disgraceful. being a stay at home dad i can tell you how hard it is to take care of a normal child as most here can attest to but a child with downs is in a whole nother league. we have a few children who have this in our extended family and their parents can tell you horror story after horror story of the difficulties bringing up these children, yes there is mostly joy involved when having any child and for the most part all of these kids are awesome to be around now that there a little older but it took a lot of work to get them where they are at.

if the situation were turned around and it was one of the Dem's who had this situation i would feel the same exact way, but as it stand their biggest problems seem to be a lack of experience and lots of talk of change with little explanation of what they mean by it.

does anyone else get creeped out when McCain gives his weird smile? or is it just me :laugh2:

I think it's a combo of a few things...one being the cult of "celebrity" that is helping to dumb down Americans - two, some argue that it's hard for her to claim to represent the moral high ground when she's got a pregnant teen in her household. Personally, I look at it like this...She's 17. It's Alaska. What the hell else is there to do?

plus, and it's only a quibbling difference, but McCain was in the Navy, not the Army. Doesn't detract from his service at all, just being factual.

My comment was made tongue in cheek. Will add disclaimer next time.
Political debate is a legitimate topic.  Especially, as you say spddrcr, when it is going to be an interesting one.  The fact is it was said and is in the news.  Newsworthy or not things like this are in the news. And the fact is someone that is a public servant and one that is high up in the food chain should know better.
At least the DNC candidate Obama had the class to come out and call for the cease on the attacks on Palin's family and to try and support the efforts down south for hurricane victims.  +1 for him!

This is the first time in my life where I think I've been this serious about politics and it's tough! If it's not hard enough to find the right candidate already, I also have to deal with everyone else's PUSHY opinions. I'm not referring to the guys on here, I'm referring to people I see every day. I'm leaning towards Obama and my wife is leaning towards McCain (neither one of us are 100% at all). Her mother-in-law went OFF on her last night for even considering Obama. Then, the guys at work were totally against Obama. I'll give you three of their "wise" reasons. First one..."I refuse to vote for someone who's middle name is Hussein." Second, "Palin's son is going to Iraq." Third, "McCain served in the Army and Obama didn't." Ok first of all, who cares about a name!? Second, Biden's son is going to Afghanistan; Finally, I used to be one of those who said I would only vote for someone who served. Then I realized how many losers (edited to prevent cursing) I've served with. Not to say he's a loser but I doubt the fact that my alchoholic, racist, womanizing grandpa who left his wife and 4 children to be with another woman qualifies as the next president just because he was once a Prisoner of War or even because he was a Policeman.

your right, i didnt relize this was an actual political subforum :doh!
I think after listening to my wife and the rest of my family extended or otherwise go on and on about this election im just getting crazy with everything. everyone in my household are dems, this year i changed to republican before the primaries to vote for ron paul, and now i believe if he had one the repub primary this would be a better election and im sure he would have had a good chance at winning the presidency. but as it stands with mccain i dont like his policy on the war, but do like some of the other things he stands for. I cant stand palin. no matter what anyone says she doesnt have the experiance for the job.

But then again i also think obama is a joke, he doesnt stand behind the important issues for me such as 2nd ammendment rights (imagine that, someone in the bay area who actually enjoys shooting guns :laugh2:) but again he doesnt have the experiance either.

alot of people have told me i should consider a thrid party canidate but there again is the problem of them all being compleate whacko's

this whole thing is giving me one giant headache

Seriously, these political topics are becoming asinine.  To most of us it was a joke against the RNC.  Both sides make dumb comments but they are hardly newsworthy.
