Title: NEW Daddy Place Logo!
Post by: Rob on June 15, 2008, 10:24:58 PM
I worked good and hard on some of these examples.. let me know which you like best.. whatever style gets picked I will make versions for each holiday and special occasion etc.. and Keith will update the image with the new one with every event.

I included how the 4th of july one may look, and how the reflection would look at the top..Vote NOW!

Great idea man, that seasonal logo would work very well. Kind of a Google homage!

I'm all for seasonal logo's.  However if we start into the whole Holiday logo's we run into the problem of which countries holidays do we include.  Obviously the US with the base for the site being there.  England?  Canada?  If we're looking to be a rather global dad community it can't only be one or anyone from outside the US might think the site wasn't for him.

I agree to a point too..   But as far as I know...   We would only use the seasonal logos for the day of the season..  For instance, 4th of July..       For the big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas we would probably run them for a week...

Ok now what do I do?
Title: Re: NEW Daddy Place Logo!
Post by: James Reardon on June 16, 2008, 06:55:36 PM
open it with note pad, follow the instructions I put in it.  goto dp invite and change the invite code to yours - which is 199,  mine is 156.  so anyone that clicks that bbc code banner will be invited to DP by you.

It's a bit cartoony for me.

 :agree:

There are some good concepts here, but (no offense Rob) the execution is a bit off.   Besides, are really ready to move past having to look at Keith's @ss every day?!?

james..   couldn't we just add all of those into the Invite section?

Yes keith,  we could add more banners to the invite section and at tags for HTML and BBC codes for each.  I'm quite sure you could figure it out of if you could send me a copy of the invite.template.php I could do it.  And pretty sure Mitch has a good head on his shoulders and could do it too.  But if you want go ahead and e-mail it to me and I will revise it when I have time, just let me know what banners we decided on.

Not a problem at all.

Thanks to those of you who voted, Yes it is sorta "googly" by nature.. as for what holidays get to be represented.. I started a post a little while back asking if you were in another country and wanted your holidays posted to post them.. i got no responses.. obviously the major ones like christmas, thanksgiving, 4th of july, new years, basically the major stuff on a calendar..

as for looking cartoony.. you have to remember this site is called DADDY place too.. not Dad world, or "Ultimate homepage for the MAN"... its daddy.. which is cartoony and kiddie because its about being the father, not the man.. this is how I saw it when i made the designs anyway *shrug* cant shoot a guy just trying to think ;)

so now I will get with keith and make sure we get these images matching, and lined up etc with the site's layout.. the image with the dad and silhouettes was the winner so that will be the official logo.. which will look good on tshirts etc too!

I just tried the images and they work...

However..    Don't worry about the background color...     Make the background transparent..  I think it will work alot better.

are you going to start using the one with the Dad and Kids Silhouettes in the background once the 4th ahs passed? also if you do that, remove the other image that says daddyplace so it doesnt have 2 right next to eachother..

That's not bad Rob..      The good thing about the way I have this setup in the theme, is that I can change it on the fly without having to go to FTP..  So it's all good.
