Title: Fallout 3
Post by: Adrian's Dad on October 29, 2008, 01:01:38 PM
Did anyone pick it up?  I absolutely love it.  It does have the "Oblivion effect" though where I play 4 hours and it only seems like 10 minutes.  So I'm going to start setting alarms before I jump into it each time.  :laugh2:

I should be getting my strategy guide today although I'm going to play through the main quest once first and then go back and try different things.

I got it.  I traded in some games so it didn't cost me anything.

The game is huge.  I just got to the "outside."  It's very similiar to Oblivion.

I gave my guy a gunfighter mustache.  Classic.

I am very much getting this one (hopefully, tonight).  Oblivion was one of my absolute favorites...I still pop it in just to run through a cave or ruins and kill stuff.  There were a couple of comments that I read from the YouTube videos and knocked it for being like Oblivion, but I'm actually glad that it's "Oblivion-like."

Just picked this up a little while ago.. haven't had a chance to play yet. I never played Oblivion as I am just getting into RPG's. Two Worlds.. blah.. then Mass Effect and Fable II. After reading reviews, I had to choose between this and Dead Space.

I bought it as well - along with the Collectors edition guide (which is enormous and overwhelming).  Played for a few hours last night and so far really like it.

I have no idea what I'm gonna do once GoW2 & Resistance 2 are out next week - along with still plugging my way through Dead Space.  There's just not enough time in the evenings once the boys are down.  So many good games all of the sudden.

I got it and while it's great that this game will take up a TON of my time, I'm still sorely disappointed in it.  Particularily w/ the V.A.T.S. system.  Todd Howard, the creator, said that this would be a game that you could play as either a FPS OR an RPG, using the V.A.T.S. system, but your use of vats is very limited, too limited for my taste.  Olden stated that one would dominate w/ unlimited vats, but you miss a ton when using it, and can still get shot by the enemy.  I find myself playing more and more as a FPS which causes you to miss out on the great animation scenes.  Your guns miss a ton.  I had over 100 rounds for my rifle, fought three super mutants, and now I'm down to like 30 rounds.  That seriously blows.  I'm so limited in stuff I can carry that I can barely carry extra gear w/ all the ammo and aids I'm trying to keep, much less upgrade my wpns to the heavy wpns which weigh even more and upgrade my big gun capability.  A 10 for this game?  I think not.  It's just a 9, maybe even 8.5 for me.  I was expecting a different ride.

My copy is sitting in my truck(wont get back home from out of town until tommorrow). Just hang in there Fallout Tactics was the same way but once you start leveling up you will like it alot more, you just have to work for the points.

Aftr...

I'm surprised to hear you say that.  I've played it just a bit over 2 evenings and honestly really had no issue with VATS.  I'll admit the first night - when I didn't have a clue what to do - and hadn't looked at the strat guide I bought - I was thinking it was just "ok".  But after spending some time looking over the strat guide and kind of using it to walk through the entire in-vault beginning with a new character - I gotta say I'm LOVING it.  I had at least 5-6 various head exploding/head being blown off entirely/arm being blown off animations before I left the vault.  If you don't have the strategy guide - I'd highly recommend it.  There was a good deal more stuff to do, see and loot in the vault than I realized on my first night playing and I'm really glad I started over and reviewed the guide a bit.  Also - since agility affects your use of VATS - have you bumped up your agility rating in SPECIAL?

Yeah I was looking over the guide a little bit last night too and it gives a pretty good rundown on stats and what you should choose based on your play style.

I noticed you don't level up nearly as fast as Oblivion so I got way ahead of myself in the game.  I think I just got to level 4 but I'm pretty far into the main storyline and boy it's getting really tough.  I may go back and do a few sidequests before I continue.

Btw, some of the Fallout monsters would destroy GoW monsters.  :whoa:

thanks.  I think I need to do that.  The slow-mo vats kills are the best and why I keep coming back, but I want them more.  It's a fun game, I mean, it's a 9 for me, but I just want to play the game through completely as an rpg, and I thought I would have that option, so that was a major disappointment to me.  I mean it's fun, and I guess I gotta play it alot more, and there is a TON to do, so I like that, but I guess that's what sux when you read up on something before it comes out and expect one thing, and then get something else.

For me its game of the year.
I have no issues with the VAT system. If anything, imo, it's realistic in the sense that in the beginning, your aim would be shitty until you start to level up.
I like it better than Oblivion (just couldn't get into it. Found it way too overwhelming and I'm sick of medieval style rpgs).
I've been playing Fallout since the first one and am pleasantly surprised at how well it's been updated, retaining what made Fallout so great yet not so cult-y to alienate newcomers.

I'm keeping my eye out for it at a good price. So far 49.99 is lowest I seen it since Black Friday.

yeah i too, for one was disapointed about how short the game was.    seems like it should have been longer.    and what was up with the level cap?

downloadable content is due out, so hopefully they increase the lvl cap, but I gotta agree.  For as many perks that they came up w/ and you only get lvl 20.  I would've done at least 30, but probably 50 more than likely.  C'mon, I want to be a super bad a@@.

LOL.  thanks.  Now w/ the delay, the lvl cap increase is even FURTHER away.  Can't wait for it all the same though.
