Store/Load Wii games from External HD
« on: July 12, 2009, 03:14:16 PM »
My kids recently really got into the Wii. Now, we've had ours for a while and it never really got any action until the last month or so. Now it seems like someone is always on the thing. So, I looked so a solution to playing games without having to swap discs. Kids + swapping discs = Unplayable discs after a while, as many of your probably already know first hand. Anyway, I found this guide-

I did this about a month ago. If you follow the guide exactly it works very well. Hope it helps anyone thats interested.

I read somewhere in all that stuff that not all external HD's will work though. I picked up a Verbatim USB powered 160GB external HD off of ebay. Works fine. It was brand new still sealed for about $40. 160gb is more than enough. I only have about 8 games on it and I would be surprised if 20 gigs is used. YMMV.

I got a Wii for Christmas & modded to play backups off of 250 GB usb drive, also put a NTFS partition on it & put avi movies on it to play with mplayer_ce in homebrew channel, I have 52 games on it & some of those games have like 10-15 games per disc so I have more the 70 I would think. Cost effective for sure, plus keeps your originals in good condition to boot. I think like 65% of the drive is being used.
