My Lab is gone.
« on: July 27, 2009, 09:01:54 AM »
Well after 14.5 years she finally decided to die. Her name was Dusty and the wife and I bought her on our 1st anniversary. She was a great dog and never ever hyrt anyone. In the last year or two I could tell she was getting very old. She greyed up alot and wass starting to walk funny. Labs have problems with their hips as they get older. I had been contimplating on putting her to sleep because she couldn't run or even walk fast. I just couldn't bring myself to take her in. So she is better off now, not hurt or anything.

She was the 1st pet that we had as a family and will be missed. My son took it pretty good. My daughter immediately wants another. I thought the wife would take it pretty hard. Everyone was worried about me, cause I raised her and trained her the most, she was my dog and listened very well. But I was prepared and it was for the best.

I'm trying to give my neighbors the house and all the food I had left. We plan to get another but I am not getting a large dog. And down here in LA, I wan't something small to keep inside as to keep them out of the heat and weather.

RIP Dusty, you were a great friend and family member.

Here are a few pics of the times we all had.

Damn, sorry to hear that. It's always hard to loose a pet, especially one that you've raised like that. Glad to hear that you and your family are taking it well.

People who think they know it all really annoy those of us that do.

Sorry to hear that Vegas - sounds like your family was lucky to have such a great dog for so long and he was lucky to have you guys as well. I think situations like this are the real definition of "doing the right thing isn't always easy."

Sorry for the loss Chad. Glad the family is taking it as good as they can in the situation. It's good you were prepared as I'm sure it helps big time. Having a pet that long and losing them is real hard. Their a part of the family. She'll always be in your and her heart.

sorry to hear about your loss. Pets get to be just as much a part of your family as kids do. You can get another pet but it just isn't the same. Remember all the good times you had and hopefully that will help with the sorrow.

I'm really sorry to hear Chad.  Just the little bit I got to see of him, I could tell he was a real sweet dog, caring, and just wanted to be around people and the kids.  This heat didn't help, and he was definitely looking rough when I saw him.  I'm sure he is a lot better off now though, and the family seems to be taking it better than expected for you.  An inside dog is the way to go though, the family spends more time w/ them and they don't stink from being outside so much.  I can show you where we looked for ours if you need or anything.  Well, best of luck Chad.

Sorry to hear it Chad, but I have to agree with Aftr, the dog was looking rough the day we saw it. Sorry for your loss but at least your lab isnt suffering anymore.
