Run Challenge
« on: September 03, 2009, 12:11:32 AM »
So i was updating some stats on mapmyfitness.com and ran across an interesting challenge.  Something that i thought maybe those who wanted to, could do.  It is called Run 100 miles in 30 days.  Yes, this seems daunting, but if you break it down, it is really only 3.3 miles per day... most of u who are running, run at least that if not more.  Those interested, we could pick a month, or a 30 day stretch, and see who can complete it, and see who runs the most.  This could end up being something that carries over.  I am thinking personally, October would work for me, just because  i am going to PA for a week, then back in IN for 2 weeks, then drive to TX at the latter part of this month.  I can not guarantee max participation until the 1st of OCT.  Could be bragging rights, and maybe a little medal put on the winners profile?  I am open to thoughts  opinions.

I don't know.  I'll have to look at my training plan :)

Not that I am out of shape (according to that BMI index I am at my normal weight or whatever) but I have been wanting to work out a little more and I love running.  I think I'll give it a shot.  Some motivation to get back into things.  Not sure I could do the whole 100 miles in 30 days, but I'll try.

Many of you might know Baby Center...???  Its basically the same concept as daddyplace but for everyone (but typically women).  Anyway, my wife loves it and at one point they put up a 30 day challenge as well.  Not running, but having sex.  Have a sexual encounter (doesn't have to be sex, but... well you know) each and every day for 30 days.

We failed at day 2 but it was still worth a shot.

 :LMAO:

yea, but i am sure that the other 2-3 weeks are heavy?

So what do you all say we start 1 Oct.  If that works for all.  That will best for me because of the upcoming moves.  Do we want to have a total posted every week (aside from the weekly fit checkins) or just use that.  I am open to suggestions.  I am going to do a little more research on mapmyfitness website to see what they have also.  Is everyone on mapmyfitness and a member of the DaddyPlace Fitness group.  I see there are 10 members to it.

it actually looks like, if we are al on mapmyfitness thati can set a challenge up on there, and we will be able to update and see a leaderboard for it.  If thats how we chose to go.

~o) No worries. Just bustin' balls.

The program I'm on right now tapers every 3/4 weeks too then builds the mileage up. I'd never done anything as structured as this before, but it works. I'm running distances that I thought weren't achievable for me just 6 months ago.

All sounds good to me Keith. Go for it.

alright, so looking at the mapmyrun website, i believe that RamblinDad will need to sign the group up.  When i try to sign a group up, it says that i have to create the group.  And since he already created the DP group on there he would have to.  Otherwise, i can send invites to everyone to "dare"them to do the run, this way w could keep a leaderboard of the progress of the 100 miles.

ok, so those who are registered on mapmyrun.com in the Daddyplace Fitness Group are registered for the 100mile Run Challenge.  Start Date is 30 Oct.  Here is a list of those registered in the group on mapmyrun: I was unable to pick and chose names in the group, so if you will not be running in this, then just disregard.  In the preferences area, i selected for everyone to receive email updates on the group.

The list of those on mapmyrun:
ramblinman
kruseingdragon7
maccabees65
bosshoss
keitheisenberger
zrandy
bigred14
crimson
emily'sdad
tonyrosen
ramblindad

(John, are you listed twice on the site?)

if you are not on the above list, and would like to participate, it would be best to register for this site, and the group, as it will have a leaderboard to compare results.

Yeah, I'm listed twice. I created the other account to see what things look like and how they work as a regular member. My alter ego is RamblinMan. ~o)

I don't run guys, sorry but my fat ass gets more than enough exercise walking. I don't run, but I don't meander either. I average 3.5 mph walking, get my heart rate up to a comfortable 130-140, and sweat like a pig. I was testing the challenge feature and added a similar challenge to Keith's they compliment each other and don't conflict. The one I put in is 100 miles in 30 for all fitness activities. It was more of a test and I started it this Friday, but I can't delete it or change it so enjoy. :laugh2:

I think the running challenge is great, and you all should go for it, but I'll continue my walking. :)*

What is cool with the DP Fitness on MapMyRun is that it goes across all the MapMy communities. I use MapMyWalk and see our group there. I initially created the group for all fitness activities and advertise it on FaceBook and in my sig as a MapMyFitness so that all our dads that exercise know they can use it.

The way a challenge works in the group is simple, just log your workout in your respective MapMy profile and it takes what applies to the challenge automatically and updates the challenge in our group until we are done, so the dads that run will add to the running challenge that Keith added, and those that run, walk, ride, swim, etc. will add to the general challenge I made for our group. In other words When you run it will add to both.

this sounds good John.  Let see how much total miles for ALL activities we can do in a months time... should be an interesting number. Any ideas, when it will update.  Looking at your challenge that starts today, it did not update my stuff from this morning... does it wait until the end of the day for total numbers for everyone, or periodically throughout the day...
