High Cholesterol
« on: February 10, 2010, 11:42:01 AM »
So last week I had a physical and some blood tests to check for diabetes and cholesterol.  I got the call the other day that my cholesterol is out of control.  I'll put my numbers at the end of this post and maybe if I remember I'll come back and update the numbers as time goes on.  Anyway..Is this common for someone my age (30 years old)?  I thought it was mostly and older persons problem.  Has anyone here dealt with this.  What should I expect when I meet with the doctor?

OK..Here are my numbers.

Total Cholesterol - 267 - Should be under 200
Triglyceride - 320 - Should be under 150
LDL - 159 - Should be under 100
HDL - 44 - Should be at least 60

No, it's not that common for guys our age. I'll be 35 in June, and all my numbers are where they should be. You really need to get your triglycerides down. Did the doc put you on any meds, or is he wanting to start with diet and exercise?

People who think they know it all really annoy those of us that do.

I haven't seen the doctor yet.  I was supposed to go this morning, but with the 2 feet of snow, everything is closed.

Just an update.  I went to the doctor last night.  He looked at my numbers, turns and looks at me and says "You are a diabetic".  I was like, what..Your nurse told my those numbers were fine.  Appearently not.  So now I'm on diet and exercise for the next 3 months to see if I can control it myself.

Crap man.   Well, I'm sure that you can control it.   My cholesterol was 199.  Just borderline.   I have to go back to the doctor today for my blood pressure medicine.

Good luck to you and controlling it!
