Killzone 3

One of Sony's major E3 titles has been revealed slightly ahead of time. Sony and Guerrilla Games are delivering on Jack Tretton's impromptu promise: Killzone 3 is real, and you'll be able to see it for yourself in the July issue of GamePro, on shelves June 1. A subscriber spilled the Helghan beans on the GameSpot forums, also revealing that the game is playable in 3-D, with the effect requiring the use of glasses (oh, and a 3-D-capable television). GamePro has confirmed the cover story to Joystiq.

That means that Killzone 3 is going to be a showpiece for Sony's 3-D technology, and therefore we should probably expect to hear a lot about it at the company's E3 presentation.

I'm glad to get a new Killzone but don't know about the 3D part.  I guess its a nice bullet point to add on a box but seems kinda pointless.  I doubt I'll ever play through it with two sets of glasses on, if I ever get a 3D capable set.

Avatar was 3D, but you could still play it in 2D, the option was just there.  I'm positive Killzone 3 will be no different.  I'm sure it will be another great game.  I hate you PS3 boys.   :laugh2:

Here's more details, and it is optional for 3D:

It's been heavily rumored for a while (in fact, SCEA president Jack Tretton even promised it back in March), and now it's official: Guerrilla Games is indeed making Killzone 3, and the latest issue of GamePro is packed with tons of details on the latest installment in the FPS franchise.
These details come by way of a poster on the GameSpot UK forums, who pulled a number of juicy tidbits from GamePro's preview. Evidently, Killzone 3 will add jetpacks to the gameplay, with the jetpacks described as "surprisingly lightweight and agile" and "easier to maneuver compared to the sluggish incarnations of the gadget found in other games." The enemy will one again be the Helghast, although Killzone 3 will show they still "have humanity left in them."

The setting wasn't specified very much, although Killzone 3 will apparently have arctic levels, and they're going for a feeling of "being in a place far away from home, outnumbered by people who want to kill you." The game is also described as being "like Inglourious Basterds"...whatever that means. And unsurprisingly, Killzone 3 will have to option to play it in stereoscopic 3D, with the effects touted as a "game changer" (you will, of course, need a 3D-capable TV for the effects to work, though).

A few more standout details:

New weapon called the Wasp, basically shoots a "flurry of rockets" at an enemy.
Will show off the Helghast culture.
There is actually a Helghast language, which will be explored in the game.
Will have "diverse locales."
Jetpacks double as a weapon, which basically means a machine gun mounted right on top of it.
If you shoot Helghast with jetpacks, they'll "explode like roman candles"
To control the jetpack, you "have to activate bursts of speed in midair, propelling yourself across further distances."
The Jetpack resembles something you'd do in platformers such as Super Mario Bros. Or Uncharted.
And speaking of Uncharted, apparently the GamePro preview also says (according to CVG) that Naughty Dog worked alongside Guerrilla Games to create the graphics engine for Killzone 3.

What doesn't seem to be revealed anywhere is when Killzone 3 will be released, but we'll no-doubt find out a ton of more information on the game at E3 next month.
