small meals every 3 hours?
« on: October 10, 2010, 05:46:52 AM »
I started eating small and healthy meals recently, I eat every 3 hours something small like 1 piece bread, lettuce, tomato, 4 slices lean sandwitch meat and a little bit and honey mustard or a plate full of salad with little dressing or smaller portions of my regular meals also 1 serving size yogurt a lot healthier than I was.

I was wondering if anybody else has tried a diet like this? From what I read eating smaller meals lets your body metabolize the food before it can turn into fat.

Also any good core workouts? I recently started playing basketball and cannot jump for S! I know lots of leg workouts but looking to strengthen my core and only know basic exercises any help would be appreciated!

  • Let me show you my gall bladder. I have it over here in a jar. Oh wait that's an avocado. Hmmm, you may not want to eat that guacamole.

five meals a day, no more than what can fit in the palm of your hand. This keeps your engine running, it keeps your bodies metabolism working so you use the calories to produce energy instead of storing it. If you can swing it this is the way to go, this is exactly how the majority of the world eats, look at the French and all the fatty foods they eat.
Nobody can eat fifty eggs. Except for Takeru Kobayashi

I've been doing this for about 3 months now, did it before for awhile as well.  Its an easy habit to get into, much easier than say cutting out carbs or eating only healthy foods.

Morning, around 6am, I have a bowl of oatmeal (apple cinnamon flavored or Brown Sugar) and mix some dehydrated fruit in with it (Cherries and cranberries).  @ about 9 to 10 am I have an apple or a small pack of penute butter crackers.  around 11 to 12 noon I have a sandwich, or go out to lunch, this is typically the largest meal of the day for me.  Then at 3pm I have another small snack, apple or raw vegatables or almonds.  No more food after 4 pm.  Go to bed by 8pm.

Thats all during the work week, during the weekend I eat at the same times but  breakfast is usually larger and different and the last meal is typically at 2pm and is usually something pretty large.

Every now and then I work out on the elliptical in the morning (Around 5am) for 20 minutes, trying to get into a habit of doing this but it hasn't happened yet.

This works for me, I am losing about 5 to 10 lbs per month, have lots of energy, I don't have any consistent cravings, If I want to eat something I eat it, nothing is off limits, except eating after 4pm (Which I follow 95% of the time).  Now if I could just work out on a regular basis I would be losing weight much faster.

This is a good start Dew. I would try to get more protein in as your activity levels increase. And if you drink soda, start to reduce it and work towards eliminating it. If you need the caffeine, black coffee, green tea, or my occasional guilty pleasure sugar-free RedBull (gotta have some vices).

Read your food labels and try to get the following mix each day: 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% monounsaturated fat.

If you're looking for a good the best core workout, start doing the work posted in the DPCFN threads. Nothing else comes close. Lots of squats (front/back/overhead), cleans and deadlifts which are unmatched in their ability to develop superior core strength, explosive power and a good blast of cardio.

Do the workouts and you will be dominating in hoops or any sport for that matter.
