Energy Gels

So I was just curious to see your guys take on energy gels. Do you use them? How often? What kind?
I was using the PowerBar energy gels for a while then switched to GU I was using them for my long runs every Sunday and sometimes for my mid runs. They get kind of expensive if your using them frequently the PowerBar ones where over $2 a peice and then I found this article

 http://www.active.com/mountainbiking/Articles/Make_Your_Own_Homemade_Energy_Gel.htm

This recipe has been great as I can mix up a big batch for dirt cheap I'm still experimenting with flavours so far I've used kool-aid and jello and they've worked pretty good.

I use the GU gels on my long runs longer than 10 miles.  I don't feel I need them before that. They fit well in my pocket  Will usually just take one with me and use it at the halfway point.
Thanks for the link!

thanks for the link Frank.  I only use them on the longer runs (10+ miles), as i do not really need them sooner then that.

I use them for the longer distances too. GU and Accel-Gel and I recently tried Stinger at the Livestrong ride.

I'll have to give that recipe a try. Thanks for the link.
