Four Hour Body
« on: December 02, 2010, 04:55:11 PM »
Tim Ferris - the guy that wrote "Four Hour Work Week" has written another book, this time documenting everything he's done to his own body with some pretty impressive results.  The book isn't out yet, but I follow his blog and have read some of the items that will be in this book (like how he gained 34 lbs of muscle in 28 days with just 4 hours of gym time).  I don't doubt that he's got some genetic benefit, but I do think much of this is obtainable by others, if at a reduced level.  I mean, how many of us would be happy with a 10 lb gain of muscle in just a month?  Or losing 20 lbs of fat in 30 days without exercising?

I'm getting serious about my weight loss (well, starting to) because I want to play soccer and help my daughter train.  I intend to start with Tim's book and go from there.

In the book:
Quote
    *  How to prevent fat gain while bingeing (X-mas, holidays, weekends)
    * How to increase fat-loss 300% with a few bags of ice
    * How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time
    * How to sleep 2 hours per day and feel fully rested
    * How to produce 15-minute female orgasms
    * How to triple testosterone and double sperm count
    * How to go from running 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers in 12 weeks
    * How to reverse "permanent" injuries
    * How to add 150+ pounds to your lifts in 6 months

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are more than 50 topics covered, all with real-world experiments, many including more than 200 test subjects.

Sounds interesting. I watched the trailer for the book and recognized the "unscared" fist-tats, then when I saw the tatted guy running, I knew it. He's Brian MacKenzie founder of CrossFit Endurance. I wonder if CF is somehow tied to this. They've got the trailer posted on their website too.

Tim's always been big on social media for self promotion.  I'm not TOO surprised to see a trailer, though. He tried to get on tv, even had a pilot with the history channel (i forget the name but he learned an old Japanese style of shooting bow from horseback).

I have to assume he'll try to use this book as another attempt to get on tv.

For those on the fence, Tim has posted the table of contents and the "How to use this book" which wound me up even more to read this book.

This showed up on my Kindle yesterday.  Immediately started devouring pages and also immediately realized I can't read books like this on the kindle.

Yes the kindle takes notes, but it's a clunky process.  Bookmarking and going to those bookmarks is also a bit cumbersome.  Much easier to thumb back to a bookmark (post-it).

So I ordered the hardback edition as well.   :banghead:

Oh well...maybe I'll be eligible for some of the freebies that are available for the rest of today (details here: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2010/12/14/the-4-hour-body-is-now-out-live-qa-today-new-trailer-free-books-and-much-more/ )

So i have been reading the book and am getting a lot of take aways from it.  I have elected to look into the Muscle Gain and have been reading "From Geek to Freak" and Ocam's Protocol 1 and 2.  Not a bad read.  I could not imagine only going to the gym twice a week and gaining 38 pounds in a month.  Unfortunately i am unsure if i would be able to incorporate this into the CF routine that i am doing.  Just wanted to give an update on my progress with the book.  What are your guys' thoughts so far.

I have pretty much read the entire book and found several things I would like to try.  Now I just have to pick which ones.  He has brought to light some interesting ideas but i wish he would explain them more in detail. Overall the book was a great purchase and I look forward to experimenting and seeing how these things work for me.
If I disagree with you it is because you are wrong.

I have to start with the fat loss, but then I want to move into the "5k to 50k".  I haven't read it all, but want to get to "effortless superhuman".

A little more detail would be nice in some of them.  And the section about Dr. Romanov's "pose method of running" has a little detail, then a warning, then...no suggestions for something else?

Also, I LOVE the cheap replacement for the kettlebell.

hmm, have not read those areas yet... i took his advice and read a few small areas... Freak to Geek, and then the Prehab to Rehab.  I am thinking of going through the book cover to cover now.
