Great job keet.  25 pounds, that's awesome.  Keep up the good work.  Adding the cardio will definitely help.

I ended up turning this last week into an experiment week.

I went the full weekend not concerned with what I ate (so, 2 days instead of 1), then ended up eating out 9 times during the week.  Total weight loss/gain that following weekend?  Down another half pound.

I've got it cracked.

I know what I can take in, in what quantities, and still maintain weight.  I'm incredibly pleased with this as the longevity of it all was a concern of mine.

In other news, I've already started with a local soccer league.  It's an over-30 league and they're small side games (5v5 including keeper), but I had a great time tonight at my first game.  Had no clue what I was doing the first half and my staggering lack of fitness made itself incredibly apparent.  Got it together the second half and even came close to scoring a couple times.  Not bad for my first time ever playing, I think.

Great fun and am looking forward to losing the rest of the weight and moving up to more competitive teams.

As to the bet, turns out there are only 2 other guys in, not 3 as I thought.  One guy hasn't lost any weight due to a thyroid problem that's preventing it.  The other guy has had inconsistent weight loss (counting/watching calories), but is still progressing.  He's down a total of 55 lbs, but he started last summer (I think he's down about 20 since we started the bet).  I think his progress is slowing since his wife has been having trouble sticking to any diet and I think we can all agree if our significant others aren't supportive, it's incredibly tough to do.

So, once I get back on track with the actual losing piece, I should be in a good position for the bet that now officially ends on June 18.

Some ups and downs, settling in to a very slight net loss.

Ok, long version:
The eating plan hit some bumps due to my lack of planning.  I'm making MUCH better choices on the day to day as far as quantity and overall choices, but it certainly stops the weight loss cold.  I expected this, of course.

I've been struggling with the workouts overall, though I haven't been as stressed about that.  With summer here and the fields clear, it's been all soccer.  I go to the kiddo's practices and we stick around after for another 30-60 minutes to practice ourselves.  On top of that, I've started dragging my step dad out to practice as well.  He challenges me quite a bit more than the kid and has been helping me practice as goalie as well.  And, of course, I'm still in the adult soccer league.  It's broken up for the summer, but we're doing weekly pickup games.  Played tonight and ran like mad.

Overall fitness is still a struggle.  I haven't quite cracked how to make bigger strides in boosting my overall fitness.  When I started playing, I couldn't run more than 5-10 minutes without feeling like I was going to throw up (sadly).  I still can't run a full game, but I'm doing better and better.  I just need to be diligent about adding muscle or at least boosting my muscles' efficiency.

So, overall still good.

it seems like you are doing great.  Any improvement is better than no improvement, and you are sticking with it.  Great job.

Things are still on a positive path, overall, though I've hit a couple bumps.  Nothing really in the food department.  Still making good choices there, still avoiding the fried stuff, still focusing on balance and portion control.

The problem is injury.  I popped something in my left foot during a soccer game a couple weeks ago.  At this point, it's got to be a ligament or a tendon.  I'm not sure which, though I'm leaning towards ligament.  I suppose I should probably have a doctor tell me what it really is...

1 - It hurts when my foot gets bent upward (think, calf stretching, the angle of the foot).  It's not the entire time, but once my foot hits a certain angle, the pain hits, I see red and want to kick a puppy.

2 - The pain is not during the entire muscle contraction, only when the foot is in certain positions.

I've been icing and taking anti-inflammatory, but I haven't stopped playing soccer.  I admit, I'm sure I'll need to stop playing for a good 2-4 week window, but it's just tough when the weather's so nice and the summer is so fleeting.

A solid tape job will let me play a full two hours with a decent need of icing (ache, but no sharp pain), but I tell you...a $hitty tape job and I'm on my a$$ within an hour.

So, still going well, but this injury is going to force me to be diligent about what I eat since, at some point, I'll have to take an extended break from soccer.

it is good to hear that you are keeping up with the diet.  Like Randy said, I would get the foot checked out.  The last thing you want is for it to sideline you even longer because of delay.  Best of luck with it.

Hey Bob - It's on the top of my foot, center, right where it starts to rise up to the ankle.  If I play longer than I should, I start to get a bit of pain just above the ankle on the outside of my foot (blue dot on image).  The pain on the outside of the foot is rare, though.

Gotcha. I would see a PT or doc and get it checked out. If it's a ligament issue, you don't want to mess around. Pain is the body's way of telling you something is wrong and you need to take a break.

<jackass>Had I listened to my body last weekend I wouldn't be sitting here with a torn calf muscle right now.  :banghead:</jackass>

No running/jumping for me for at least 4 weeks.

Yeah...I know I'm walking a fine line with this one.  I just hate to not be able to take advantage of our short summer.

I suppose I'll make an appointment with the doc, though.  Better to be down for 2 weeks than 6-8.
