Bonuses to eating healthier
« on: January 31, 2011, 01:06:17 PM »
Just read this and wanted to share as there's a significant "dad" component to it. I've experienced a number of these changes as well since I started to clean up my diet (avoiding the aisles in the supermarket and sticking to the perimeter.)

Aside from the beans and lentils, I never really paid much attention to the fact that I'm now shopping the perimeter of the store.

I don't disagree a bit that good health and fitness lead to a more involved parent (for most).  It's just so easy to go home from work and tune out when you're overweight and eating poorly.  No energy, poor self image, etc. all allow you to just give up far too easily.

I don't quite just turn off the tv now when my daughter wants my attention, but I turn it to a music channel a whole hell of a lot more often, that's for sure.  Practicing passing the ball back and forth with our heads (small area, we make do) is a lot more fun (and engaging) than watching Mythbusters.

Great find Bob

Being in better shape makes you wonder sometimes how you did it when you weren't in shape.  I've let myself slip a bit but i'm always very conscious of it.  I took my kids out tobogganing and I wonder if my sister, who is now 400+ could even get up the hill we were going down once.  Never mind attempting to stand up on the toboggan going down with my oldest....  Still hurting from that though.
