So I just bought an iPad 2 and I was wondering if any other dads had one, and if so are there any apps that you recommend.

Sorry man, I don't have one.  I'm sure there are piles of mac sites out there with recommendations though...google should give you plenty of ideas in a short time.

I'm looking at tablets, but I think I'll most likely stick with Android.

I think the three most used apps (not counting Safari/mail) on my iPad 2 are

Reeder - google reader newsfeed app.  I like the layout and ease of use as well as the integration with read-it-later/instapaper

Zite - sort of like a magazine, you select the categories and it will pull news on that topic.  They were recently bought by CNN but thankfully they haven't messed with the app nor made CNN the only source for articles.

Crux - crossword puzzles.  I love word games.  I've tried this and Crosswords but I like crux better due to the coloring.  It's easier on my eyes when I'm laying in bed doing crosswords before I go to sleep.

I've spent the last week and a half with one of our department's iPad's doing some research. Hopefully no one asks for it back.

+1 for Zite.

I also like Flipboard which is similar to Zite. I like the presentation of Flipboard (and I can access daddyplace in the app. see attached screen) more but in terms of functionality Zite wins.

Real Racing 2 HD. Best game I've played.

I want an Ipad pretty badly.    I really like the way that DP news feeds looks on there.

Can you edit pictures on them?  I mean if you were a photographer could you do most of the edits on them?

Gonna have to try flipboard.  I agree Real racing hd is great.

@ keith.  With the new iOS you can edit photos to an extent.

Thanks for the offer Norm.  I was actually asking for my wife.  She sits at the computer most days editing her photography photos.  I was just asking if the Ipad could do it too so she could move around the house.    She doesn't want to do it on a laptop, I thought the Ipad would be easier to navigate.

I have not downloaded any specific apps for this, I use the photo app that came with it, but it is real basic, crop, red eye, etc

@Fro.  I don't know really.  I have asked her several times.   Biggest thing I guess is speed.

I have explained that laptops are almost as fast as desktops now and she can get a normal mouse too.   But, she still doesn't want one.
