Baked Ziti (I finally cooked something!)
« on: June 02, 2012, 09:55:40 AM »
Well this isn't my first time cooking but I can still count the number of meals I've prepared for my family on one hand!  :LMAO: This is, however, the first time (that I can remember) cooking something and then being told it was actually "not bad."

The meal, this time, was Baked Ziti. My wife had actually pre-made the sauce and placed it in the freezer the night before (we keep enough extra after making spaghetti) and then she walked me through the steps to dethaw it properly, boil the noodles, place them in a glass pan, preset the oven to 350, then when the noodles are ready (they should float and they'll be edible, not hard/rubbery), you strain the extra water off and place them in the glass pan, topped by the sauce and enough shredded cheese to layer the top, then place in oven for anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour. Start looking in on it after 30 minutes (use the light, don't open the oven) and when it is lightly browned, pull it out to cool. Once cool enough, serve and enjoy. Also, I buttered up some bread and put garlic salt on it, then placed it in the oven for approx. 15 minutes...Who knew toast in the oven took so long!?

Anyway...For you novice cook's out there (like me), this is a pretty easy meal. You don't have to use home-made spaghetti sauce like us, you can also use any pre-made store bought sauce, just the same.

It's not too bad but I'm still so novice at it that it's a bit stressful. I'm worried the majority of the time that it's going to burn or that I'll take it off too early. LOL
