Topic: Concrete Countertops?

Once again I was searching on the internet because that's what I like to do when I have some spare time.  I came across a website that offered concrete countertops.  Have you guys ever seen those?  Does anyone here have them?


They look great to me, I don't know what they wife would say.  But I can only imagine how long they would last.  I have never heard of concrete countertops, ever.  According to the site, you can even get oyster shells in them if that's what you want.  I think that is neat!  I have been looking at the pictures on their site and it says that they can even make it look like granite they polish it so well.   


It just simply amazes me the things that can be done to improve the look and feel of your house and the choices that you have available.  I always knew that you could have concrete floors and even nice concrete floors in your garage that have designs in them and a nice finish, but never concrete countertops.  LOL  The things I learn everyday just from goofing off on the net.  Of course that's not all they do on that site.  Take a look at all the other things they do.  Who knows, you might just like it too.


Best of all, they are made in America.  I'm all about that!

There are piles of tutorials out there on how to do it yourself as well.  It's pretty impressive the variety of colors, patterns and such you can turn them into, as well as the intricate designs.  Seamless transitions to sinks, built-in cooling racks, etc.

Have you done this before?   Does it look hard to do?

I haven't done it as I'm renting, but it'd be on my list of things to do to the house.  The biggest drawback was on time.  Otherwise, materials were relatively cheap and the largest investment was on time.  Getting the template correct and giving it time to cure were the longest stretches I saw (I believe I read 10 days curing).

Even if, they are really nice looking.   Thanks for that link, his countertops look great as well.    It really does seem to be a great project to do, if you have the time.

I don't know Jessie.  I though the same thing.  But if you think about marble countertops, marble is probably heavier than concrete.

Well...not sure how many of you have gone to college, but if you can put 4 dancing sophomore girls on a counter top without the cabinets breaking, I think they'd be ok holding up to some concrete.

A lot of them have styrofoam in the middle to cut down on weight. I have seen several shows on the DIY channel where they use concrete counter tops. Im pretty sure they use special concrete and they sand/polish/seal it also. I know I have seen them leave it to cure over night. From watching the shows it seems pretty straight forward and easy, but those shows always make things look that way.
