Chromebook

So I saw a commercial for the new Chromebook tonight; The laptop that revolves around the new Google Chrome OS. I'll attach the link so that you can all do your own research but here are some of the keys points that I picked out:

http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/devices/

PRO's:
  • Affordable, with a starting price of $199
  • Fast boot time
  • Safe from viruses/malware/spyware
  • User Friendly
  • Small & Leightweight
  • Free automatic updating

CON's:
  • Limited, No outside software
  • Small screen, 11.6" screen unless you pay double for the 12.1" screen
  • No CD/DVD Reader
  • Confined to Wi-Fi hot spots. Unless you pay double for the model that has optional 3G and then pay a monthly fee for that service...
  • Storage costs an additional $5 monthly after the first year

So what are your all thoughts on this one?

I hadn't even heard of it Jessie.  LOL
I looked at it though and it seems that it would be too limited for me.  But, I have been wanting a tablet really bad.  I would love to have the Ipad, but I think I'm gonna have to settle for something like the Kindle Fire HD or something like that.

The downside I see is, the best battery life of the three is still only 6 hours.  The one with the biggest screen is only 4.

I don't care about the lack of CD drive as I haven't used mine in...ages.  All my content comes from online or is stored on SD cards or USB sticks/drives.

The online storage isn't 100% necessary with USB drives, but that's an additional component to carry around.  I don't have 3G on my iPad and wouldn't pay for it if I did (I have my phone if I need content while on the go).

I don't know...I suppose it'll depend on what you're really looking for or what you plan on using it for.  Not terrible, but not the best I've seen.

That's basically where I stand as well. I mean this is basically a tablet with a keyboard instead of touchscreen, IMHO. For certain people, it will be just what the doctor ordered. For others, like myself (and Keith it would seem), it's a bit too limited...

That's exactly right. To me it looks like a casual user device, not something I'd try to sit down and do any real work on.
