A fun weekend
« on: March 13, 2013, 09:22:07 PM »
I know i have fallen off for a little bit on the site, getting back into it now.  Wanted to let everyone know about my fun weekend plans.  So a few months ago, i decided to register for a little race called the Bataan Memorial Death March.   (http://www.bataanmarch.com).  You know how bad can 26.2 miles really be.  Well, i will spend this weekend finding out.  Check out the web site, and stay tuned, as i will attempt to post pictures.  There is a reason they chose the location that they did, and the route that they did, to truly make it a memorial march for the Bataan Death March that happened during WWII.

Not sure about the "fun" part, but good luck!

A fun weekend

Mission complete.  All in all the race was very moving.  Of the remaining 20 survivors of Bataan who were at last years race there are only currently 3 still alive, the rest have passed.  The race was good, and well organized for the most part.  At about 2 miles in my bad knee started to flare up, but instead of stopping I pressed On.  At mile 8 we started up a 4 mile uphill (20%) grade that did my knee in.  We had been doing a steady 930 pace, and for the hill transitioned I to a 100 step run, 100 step walk routine for the 4 miles up and 4 miles down.  We then transitioned into what they call the sand pit for 3 miles of sand running.  It was one hell of a first marathon, finished in a time of 5:21:41, not bad all things considered.  Overall I finished 199 out of 1650 in my category.  Now I just have to get my knee healed for my next one in a month.  After which I may be done with full marathons.

Congratulations man, sounds like a hell of a race.

Take care of the knee
