Modern Living Rooms

If there is one room in the home that you could remodel, it might be the living room. This is a space where family members gather to watch TV or talk about their day, and it's often a place where you gather with friends and other family members for holidays and special events. There are a few modern design ideas that will bring a comfortable look to the home. You can find general contractors now who can give you a few tips on how to enlarge the room or how to add various furnishings and storage options if you don't want to expand the room.

A red living room might not seem like the best option, but if you combine it with white or gray, then it can be a sophisticated and modern look that the fmaily enjoys. Gray furniture with pillows in red and white along with a white coffee table and red flowers in a vase can create a beautiful space.

Patterns are an option if you want to create the appearance of texture in the living room. You want to choose patterns that are in the same color scheme. Pink, brown and green work well together. You could also add a bit of white to brighten up the space. Use swaths of color on the larger pieces of furniture with accents of patterns in the form of pillows, throws, rugs and wall decorations. An idea is to use a brown chair, green couch and a pink ottoman, tying everything together with floral prints of the same colors on pillows that sit on each piece.

If you don't spend a lot of time in the room, consider installing picture windows and wispy drapes to let as much light in the room as possible. Neutral furnishings and decorations give the impression that the room is used even if you don't stay in there. An accessory that you could add is a glass dining table, adding a touch of elegance so that the room appears staged. This often works if you're trying to sell the home or if you expect guests to use the area more than you would.
