Second firmware update for Sony's new game console now available--but its contents remain a mystery.
By Tim Surette, GameSpot

With little fanfare, Sony has released the first update for the PlayStation 3 following the console's North American launch--version 1.10 was released near the console's Japanese launch. Firmware version 1.11 can now be downloaded through the PS3's System Update feature.

Most gamers like to know what they're getting before they tinker with their consoles, but this time they'll have to use a little blind faith. Though the update is readily available to download on the console, Sony has not sent out any information on the patch. As of press time, the Sony PlayStation Web site's information on the latest update was for v1.10, and requests for comment from the electronics giant went unanswered.

GameSpot editors updated a PS3 but could not see any visible differences to the console's system or performance.

Various reports around the Internet claim the update adds an Account Management icon in the friends list, making it easier to access the feature. But all may not be well with the update. Game blog Kotaku reports postupdate lockups after accessing Music settings.

[UPDATE] A representative from Sony Computer Entertainment America contacted GameSpot and confirmed the update's main addition is the Account Management option under the Friends section of the media bar.
