This is where we start getting into the internet issues of way back.  If suppliers start making their stock only available online, and they no longer have stores (because stores=stock=overhead= less profit margin)  and no salespersons any longer, where do those jobs go?  And if those jobs go, how many people have you just removed from your purchasing clientelle?  And how much will you lose in sales and hence profits because of it?

That being said, it doesn't surprise me at all that they would do that.  If you can offer your games 20% cheaper and keep your profit margin the same, wouldn't you do it?

And you can bet the only movies on there will be from Sony Motion Picture Studios.

Nope.  Sony will charge other companies a service fee per download of their movie for the privilege of using the PS3 service.
