no joke.  This is the real reason for some many divorces in Hollywood, they can afford it.  Ridiculous when you can't do the stuff you need to do to keep you happy b/c society says you have to pay a hefty price.  Dumb.

Well I know this might be the place to put this but here goes.

I have had my kids for the last 3 weeks because their mother could not pay the light bill. She told me she went to pay it and they wanted the whole amount. I'm not shocked their because she was the same when I was married to her. The ex, her other two kids, and her new husband (who beats her) are all living in one of those pay by the week motels. So I am thinking of going for custody because my ex is not a stable parent. Both kids has missed a lot of school for a lot of different reasons. My ex has not called me to let me know what's going on.I am also afraid for the girls since she lives with an abusive person. Do you guys think I am doing the right thing?

Absolutely.

If for no other reason than the threat of abuse.

I don't think there's any question there, Brad.

You want your kids to have the best possible chance at a good life.  It doesn't sound like they're going to get that with their mom.  Visitation by her sounds like a better plan than sharing custody, so I'd absolutely go for it.

In most cases, you'll be in an uphill battle since most courts are loathe to change current status.  So bring all the ammo you have, especially if there is proof (dr's visits or some such) that there is abuse in the home.

Good luck man.

Living w/ that many ppl, not able to pay the light bill and we are approaching summer, and then living in a by the week motel.  HELL NO!!!  Get your kids, Brad.  You have every right and it certainly isn't fair for them to be with their mother.  And then the school issue, no way.  You have a great case, get your kids Brad and give them a better life.  A chance.

I agree with the other guys Brad.   Do what you can to get custody of your kids.    Sounds like you have a great case!

I talked to the ex tonight. She wants me to keep the kids for the rest of the school year. She told me that she is going to stay in a shelter for 30 days to try and save money up to try and get back on her feet. So I am thinking that is more fuel I can throw on the fire. As far as the abuse issue, he hits my ex not the kids.
