Any hikers or backpackers among us?   I'm fairly surprised this section isn't getting more hits.

I try to go on a week long trip to the mountains (Ozarks or Smokies) at least once a year.
Where do you go hiking?

sometimes I"ll pick part of the east coast trail to do http://www.eastcoasttrail.com/

or I'll look for old cart roads and trails on google maps and just see where they go...

I've climbed a rock or two in my day but nothing close enough to making me a "hiker." It is something I've thought about getting into though.

I love walking and hiking.  Don't do a whole lot of the long distance backpacking though.  By not a whole lot I mean, none.

Haven't gotten the chance to do too much since the younglings are a little too small to do it and to big to carry for long distances.  Soon though..  Very soon.

Thanks for the link rocknrolldad!  I'll have to check that out one of these days.

Jessie, definitely a good "sport" to get into man...  the isolation / seclusion is probably what I enjoy the most.

Bill,  I know exactly what you mean about the size of the lil' ones.   I'd like to take my daughter on some small scale hikes when she gets a little older.  I'd save my favorite areas for last because of the cliffs and steep inclines.  Going to nickname her "packrat"... :)

I mostly day hike. The trails around Tahoe and within a short drive from here are great for that.

I should save money and try to do some day hiking in my state... no telling what's around here.

I just enjoyed a week long road trip that included 3 days of backpacking/hiking in central Tennessee.

Good times at Savage Gulf, near Monteagle, TN
