Thanks for the reply.

Actually - he's home as of 2/16.  I traveled (my wife stayed home w/our 3 year old son) and it was a fantastic experience.  I got to meet the foster family and so forth and had the week to experience Seoul - which was just awesome.  Luckily my older sister was able to travel with me - so it was also a really nice experience for both of us to share.

Like you - I REALLY REALLY want to go back with both of our sons when they're older.  S. Korea is really amazing.

Just out of curiosity, oj467, did you travel for the first adoption also? I was just wondering since one of you stayed home this time how you decided who would go and who would stay? No huge deal just curious. My Wife and I adopted a 4 year old boy from Ethiopia and traveled to bring him home. It was a great experience and we both enjoyed it. We have talked a little about a second adoption but with 3 of our own plus Ben (the above mentioned child) I am content for the time being. If / when we adopt again I am not sure if it would be as easy for both of us to go, thus my question.

I think the thing that shocked me the most was meeting Ben's actual family. I just assumed that if he was up for adoption he had no family to speak of. Once we got there we were asked if we would be o.k. meeting his grandparents and two aunts along with a couple cousins.  In the end I think it was good since we will be able to relate some of Ben's history to him when he is old enough.

Yes we did travel for the first adoption - which was domestic.  Our first son was born in Los Angeles and we knew ahead of time when his birth mom would be induced - so we planned and we both went and stayed in LA.  We spent some time with the birth mom and even went out to dinner with her.  Both of us were there for his birth.  It was a fantastic experience.

For this adoption - we decided that I should travel since we didn't want it to be a huge shock to Zach to see mommy getting off a plane with new baby brother.  Also my wife HATES flying and the trip to LA was pretty much her max - the idea of a 15 1/2 hour plane ride was less than appealing to her.  In addition to all that - being able to actually meet the foster family and so forth is just amazing and the amount of information you get is something you just can't get from an escort.

One day we'll all fly to LA to meet Zach's birth mom - then fly to Korea so Ben can see the country he was born in.

Cool. thanks for the response. With Ben we both wanted to go, neither of us had ever been to Africa. I had thought about staying home with our 3 kids but I was nervous thinking about my wife over there alone. So grandma offered to take the kids and we both were able to go. Our flight was about the same length, timewise. Although coming back to the states was close to 17 hours. I was nervous about our new son, since he had never been in a plane, and 17 hours is a long, long time to sit in one spot. Must have been something about the vibrations or the noise though because he slept almost the entire flight.
