Runthrubland,

I dont know if your aware of this or not so I thought I
would tell you and then you can go from there.  If you
served over 180 days on Active duty in any branch
and you got the injury while on Active duty, no matter
the injury you are entitled to veterans disability benefits.

I have provided you with
a link that you can obtain both your Military health
records that will prove it happened during active duty
which you will need , and you can also get a copy
of your DD214 which you will need if you dont have it.

The way the benefits are calculted is not how many
years you served , and It didnt have to occur in a
war zone....it is calculated on the severity of your
injury.  For instance to get 100% of benefits which
would be approx. $3,000.00 per month for life that
is usually a severe head tramua , losing a limb might
be between 75-100% depending on what you can do
and cant do.  But even with ANY injury or in a case
like yours it would probably be around 20-30% , It
depends also on what your current doctor says
about your limitations and/or dealing with the pain
of the injury everyday for rest of life.

I have volunteered helping our local VA rep. a few
times , he is a vietnam vet and has lost all his limbs
but one arm....and he is the only person in our area
that helps vets who have any injury get benefits
they deserve, you would think they would give
this guy some more employees but I guess the
city supervisor's dont see the need to provide
any funding to him to up his staff....anyway...
Back on point , you can apply online for these
benefits at the VA website , when you are there
you will have to print out a couple of forms that
it gives you there , fill them out , send all required
information when you get it , wait 6 months and
then you will be informed of how much benefits
you will receive each month.....I know there are
alot of proud guys that are probably thinking
"well I wasnt in a combat zone" or "I didnt lose
any limbs and im not hurt that bad" but you
are entitled to these benefits....if nothing else
take the benefits and put it away for your
kids college or something....but I wanted to
let you know that you are entitled, here is
the link to obtain two of the things you will
need. (Military medical record and DD214)
Good luck.

Chief.

Since you were a marine , the office of Naval personnel is where your
records are now.

UH-RAH, Chief, great intel for the devildog.
I still remember when I was getting out and going to separation classes, I heard about the disability and how one guy got paid for cutting his finger.  I like to think it was a severe cut and he that's why he collected disability.  Run, I hope you weren't too proud when you got out and didn't sign up for this, 'cause you definetly RATE over the other jarheads collecting for papercuts on their arses.  If you haven't signed up before, you need to now.

I was rated at a low disability rate, so I don't get any monthly benefits. I do however get benefits for medical issues reguarding my knees. I try to get reevaluated every couple years.
