WTF is this? Gang bangers F'n up the military
« on: December 17, 2007, 03:44:26 PM »
Talk about giving the military a bad name. WTF this is this BS? Why can't we keep shit heels like this out of the military. The military is for people that want to serve and protect the constitution and the people, not for gang banging thugs that use their training to harm Americans.

What a bunch of BS. I hope they get killed over there. This is a direct result of loosened restrictions due  to lower recruitment numbers. One of my good friends is a recruiter and he struggles to meet quotas every month, and he knows there are corners being cut behind his back by his superiors. But what can he do.

Well I've seen news about this before so this is nothing new. The biggest shame is that what they are doing is disgracing the men and women that actually serve to serve, may these gang bangers all burn in hell.

my 1st sergeant in boot camp was a former gang banger w/ tats all over his neck.  I'm not assuming, he told us this.  He was the example of what the military hopes to do w/ gang bangers.  For a lot, it is the only way for them to get out of the hood and tough life style they are forced in.  Of course, they realize this and do not embrace it like those soldiers in Fort Bragg.  Disgusting.  When I was in Okinawa, we actually had a stabbing off base, but involving Marines, and was concluded that it was gang related.  There is a lot of bad, a lot of taking training back to the streets, but there is some good also for those who were able to obtain a better life through the military.  It's a risk the military is unfortunately taking, and is not accurate on their predictions.

What im about to say is not the "Majority" , there are some
that join to straighten their life out and make something of
themself which is why I joined, BUT....

I saw a program on tv and there are tons of these "gang"
members that are only joining for 1 specific reason...they
are told to by the gang leader and the only reason they
join is to get "combat training" that they then bring back
to their "gang" and the streets when they get out....

So alot are joining simply for the "training" then to come
back and teach the "gang"

Chief.

EDIT:  Just watched the video, didnt realize it said already
what I just said, pardon me.

another problem with this situation is that in alot of states including CA where i live there is often times a choice of joining the military or going to prison, what would you do? alot of these gang members are joining the military to stay out of jail and now were finally seeing the repercusions.

I thought this "join the military or go to jail" stuff was over
a long time ago, in "theory" its a good idea as the judge is
probably thinking "well, boot camp will straighten him right
up" , and this might have been the case 20+ years ago
when I went to boot camp , but from what ive seen boot
camp has changed quite a bit from the "old days" , hell
ive even seen Army drill Sgt's saying its "not their job to
yell or tear down recruits in order to build them back up..
Im now supposed to be their "big brother" ...I can assure
you my CC's were not my "big brothers" lol....anyway just
a thought of why this "boot camp or jail" might work for
a few but I dont think it will help as many as it did in the
"old days" , Im not saying that USMC boot camp is any
"easier" then it was , but if you think about it any branch
really cant "afford" for anybody that joins to not make
it through "boot camp" , they need everybody that joins
to "make it" with iraq and such going on....this might be
a reason for the "big brother" approach.

See and this is a strange truth that you bring up Chief.  If someone tells me to go in and get combat training to help the gang, and I do it....  The first thought in my head coming out is "I'm combat trained, he's not.  I'm the leader...."

I must say you have a good point there....perhaps
in the "gang" this top "staff" or chain of command
if you will is highly respected and not be "able" to
be taken out/ replaced. And if even "thinking" about
killing one of the leaders would get you killed much
less actually doing it......just a thought.

And hence why I wouldn't make a good gang member.  I'm alpha somewhere along the line.  Perhaps they aren't taken out simply because the subordinates are so ingrained that they can't be top dog that they don't try to take it.

Another thought.....Even if true gang members I believe
that if they made it through boot , got to a unit and then
went into combat in the sandbox that they probably learned
to respect the law of "chain of command" , and it being so
consistently being trained this that it had to "Rub off" to at
least some degree......like I said just a thought  ~o)

in '99 I was in Okinawa w/ a guy that was given the choice of corps or jail.  He was very funny, not a good Marine, and I wouldn't share a foxhole w/ his unmotivated a**, but funny.  Good comedy relief, but I can get that from a movie.  No thanks, but in '99, it was still going on,,,,so that was less than 10 yrs ago.  I'd say it is still happening though.  Oh, and he wasn't a gang banger, just a good ole boy w/ four DWI's.  LOL
