Gears of War 2 Four Player Co-op Confirmed (Updated)
by Chris Faylor May 16, 2008 1:40pm CST tags: Gears of War 2
Update:

Microsoft has told IGN that Bleszinski says "co-op's drop-in, drop-out, multiple difficulty settings for co-op players" instead of "multiple difficulty settings, four co-op players."

The Shacknews staff believes that the pause between "multiple difficulty settings" and "co-op" indicates Bleszinki meant four, not for, especially given his past teases. However, the official stance from Microsoft is that four-player co-op is unconfirmed as of this time.

Original Story: Gears of War creator Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski has confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel will feature four-person cooperative play.

During a video interview with GameSpot, he revealed that the game will feature "four co-op players," which he further specified to be "drop in, drop out."

The original, which hit Xbox 360 in 2006 and PC in 2007, featured local and online two-person co-op play along with an eight-player online deathmatch mode.

Bleszinski had teased the feature earlier in the week, but at the time declined a confirmation.

Gears of War 2 is slated to arrive on Xbox 360 this November. For more on the sequel, check out our impressions of CliffyB's presentation

that game is gonna rock.  Not to mention all the new characters being introduced that you can be w/ the four player co-op.  Hated how when one person would quite, the game would end, even if they weren't the host.  Kinda ruined the co-op thing for me unless I was playing w/ someone I know.  But the multiplayer was sweet, and obviously this will be as well.  Top that off w/ a much improved multiplayer and it's got game of the year written all over it for a second time.

The drop in feature was the best part of the game. I met a few nice people that way, and if they can do 4 player co-op that way, nothing will touch it this year. Halo was great, but random matchmaking for the coop was still not great unless you had friends playing. With Gears, if you wanted to do a chapter on Insane, you could search by difficulty and chapter/subchapter and then just jump in.
